Tripi is a small municipality in the metropolitan city of Messina in the autonomous region of Sicily in Italy with 818 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Tripi is 70 kilometers west of Messina . The residents mainly work in agriculture.
The neighboring municipalities are Basicò , Falcone , Francavilla di Sicilia , Furnari , Mazzarrà Sant'Andrea , Montalbano Elicona and Novara di Sicilia .
history
In antiquity, the originally Sicilian city of Abacaenum (or Abakainon / Ἀβάκαινον ), which came under Greek cultural influence, was located near today's location . As Syracuse grew and Tyndaris 396 BC Was founded, the place lost drastically in importance, but existed at least until the Roman Empire . In the Middle Ages , Tripi extended around the castle, which has been preserved as a ruin.
