Alì is a municipality of the Metropolitan city of Messina in the Region of Sicily in Italy with 710 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Alì is 33 kilometers southwest of Messina . The residents mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring municipalities are Alì Terme , Fiumedinisi and Itala .

history

The place was founded in Arab times . The exact year of foundation is unknown. Until 1960 the place was called Alì Superiore.

Attractions

The parish church, consecrated to St. Agathe , built in 1582, is worth seeing . The interior consists of three naves , separated by massive stone columns. The carved choir and the marble altar are worth seeing . Both date from the 18th century. There is also a statue of St. Sebastian in the church.
