Capo d'Orlando is a city in the metropolitan city of Messina in the Sicily region in Italy with 13,249 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Capo d'Orlando lies 89 km west of Messina at the foot of the cape of the same name. The inhabitants work mainly in agriculture, handicrafts, fishing and tourism. The location directly on the Mediterranean has made the place a tourist center on the north coast of Sicily.
Capo d'Orlando and the Capo d'Orlando-Naso train station are on the Fiumetorto – Messina line . The journey time to Messina is 1 hour and to Palermo 1 hour and 40 minutes. Capo d'Orlando has access to the A20 / E90 motorway via the Brolo or Rocca di Capri Leone junction .
The neighboring municipalities are Brolo , Capri Leone , Naso , Torrenova and Mirto .
history
The place has its origins in ancient times. The ancient city of Agathyrnon probably stood here. The town has been documented since 1320. In 1920 the town gained independence from the neighboring town of Naso .
