The diocese of Patti ( Latin Dioecesis Pactensis , Italian Diocesi di Patti ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy , located in Sicily , with its seat in Patti .

It belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Messina in the ecclesiastical region of Sicily and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Messina-Lipari-Santa Lucia del Mela .

history

The Patti diocese was founded in 1399 when Pope Boniface IX. divided the diocese of Lipari-Patti . The territory of the previous diocese on the island of Sicily was assigned to the diocese of Patti, and the Lipari Islands to the diocese of Lipari .

In the 19th century the area of ​​the Patti diocese was expanded three times: 23 parishes were added in 1824, 8 more in 1838 and 3 more in 1850.
