The Roman Catholic Diocese of Caltanissetta ( lat. : Dioecesis Calatanisiadensis , ital. : Diocese of Caltanissetta ) is an on Sicily located diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Caltanissetta . It belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Agrigento in the ecclesiastical region of Sicily and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Agrigento .
history
The diocese of Caltanissetta was established on May 25, 1844 from part of the territory of the diocese of Agrigento . It was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Monreale. When the ecclesiastical province of Monreale was dissolved on December 2, 2000, the diocese was assigned to the newly founded ecclesiastical province of Agrigento .
