The diocese of Trapani ( Latin Dioecesis Drepanensis , Italian Diocesi di Trapani ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Italy , located in Sicily , with its seat in Trapani .
It belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Palermo in the ecclesiastical region of Sicily and is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Palermo .
history
The diocese of Trapani was established on May 31, 1844 from part of the territory of the diocese of Mazara del Vallo . Like this, it was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Monreale . When the ecclesiastical province of Monreale was dissolved on December 2, 2000, the diocese was assigned to the ecclesiastical province of Palermo .
