Giovanni Bertone

Giovanni Bertone (* 1884 in Mondovì ; † May 10, 1972 in Turin ) was an Italian coachbuilder and founder of Carozzeria Bertone in Turin.

Life

Bertone was born in 1884, the sixth of seven sons. He soon left his parents' farm to train as a wheelwright . After qualifying in this profession for a few years, he went to Turin and took on various jobs until a few years later he got a permanent job in the wagon factory at Diatto .

As early as 1912 he founded the small company called "Carozzeria Bertone" on Corso Peschiera in Turin, which initially repaired carriages or manufactured them under its own brand name and for the first time after the end of World War I in 1921 with the production of a vehicle body for the SPA 23S got a bigger order. In the meantime, his second son Nuccio was born, who joined the company, which now has around 50 employees, as a designer in 1934. Together with his father, he continued to build up the company and took over management of the company after the Second World War .
