Giovanni Domenico Peri (* 1590 ; † March 6, 1666 ) was an Italian merchant from Genoa .

Giovanni Domenico Peri was the director of a printing company in Genoa from 1648 to 1650. In 1638 he wrote an extensive treatise on accounting , bookkeeping , correspondence , cash management and purchase contracts under the title Il Negoziante ("The Merchant"). The work is considered the first textbook in commercial science (branch of business administration ).

In addition to Peri, Benedetto Cotrugli , Jacques Savary (1622–1690) and Carl Günther Ludovici should be mentioned, who also compiled the business knowledge of their time in a compendium .
