Giovanni Filoteo Achillini (* 1466 in Bologna , † 1538 probably there) was an Italian scholar and poet .

He was the younger brother of Alessandro Achillini and taught himself Greek, Latin, theology, philosophy, law and poetry without, however, becoming an expert in any of these areas. Little more than the titles are known of his poems.

His two didactic poems: Il Viridario (Bologna 1513) in octaves , and Il Fedele (Bologna 1523) in terces , are among the literary rarities and contain, among other things, lessons in morals . His Annotazioni del la lingua volgare (Bologna 1536) are a satire on the Tuscan dialect and an eulogy of the Bolognese dialect.

Giovanni Filoteo Achillini was friends with the engraver Marcantonio Raimondi (around 1475 – around 1534) in Bologna and had himself portrayed by him in an engraving. His grandson was Claudio Achillini (1574–1640), a well-known philosopher, theologian, mathematician, poet and lawyer.
