Giovanni Lanfranco (musician)

Giovanni Maria Lanfranco (* around 1490 in Terenzo ; † 1545 in Parma ) was an Italian organist and music theorist of the Renaissance .

Giovanni Lanfranco was canon at the Cathedral of Brescia. He was cathedral bandmaster in Brescia until 1536 and bandmaster in Parma from 1540 to 1545. In 1533 he published his work Scintille di musica . It contains information on the musical practice of the Renaissance as well as the first description of the equally tempered lute tuning .
