Scintille di musica

Scintille di musica is a music theoretical work by Giovanni Maria Lanfranco , which was printed in four volumes in Brescia in 1533 .

The work is practice-oriented and is characterized by a clear presentation, since it should also be used as an introductory work for musical beginners. There are in Solmisation , modes , counterpoint , orchestration , chant notation and mensural treated, the latter for the first time with rules for copywriting. Gioseffo Zarlino partially adopted entire formulations in his works from the rules for texting. The tuning of the instruments is also dealt with, anticipating the concept of equal temperament . For the first time, Lanfranco differentiates musical principles according to genre and to some extent according to historical phases. The speculative medieval part of music history is only dealt with briefly.
