Peter Robert "Pete" Lockett (* 1963 in Portsmouth , England ) is a British drummer, drummer and percussionist as well as composer, arranger and music producer. He became known through numerous appearances, studio and live productions and film scores in many musical genres as well as through his international cooperation projects.

He is considered a “multi-percussionist” and one of the “world's best percussionists” ( Rhythm Magazine : “best live percussionist 2005”).

Live and act

Pete Lockett has been a musician since 1983. Since then he has dealt with many musical genres, especially in the rhythm area . His percussive playing includes traditional Carnatic music and Hindustani music from North and South India , traditional Taiko percussion instruments from Japan , blues , funk and rock to classical , folk and ethnic music, such as Arabic music and electronic music .

He is considered a very versatile and productive percussionist and has worked both live and in the studio. In addition, Lockett was also active for the film industry; he arranged and recorded percussion music for major Hollywood films such as the James Bond films Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale, as well as three earlier Bond films, Die Another Day , The World Is Not Enough and Tomorrow never dies . Lockett took part musically in other Hollywood blockbusters , such as City of Angels with Meg Ryan , Insider with Al Pacino , Plunkett & Macleane with Robert Carlyle , The Bone Hunter with Denzel Washington , Amazing Grace with Albert Finney , The Silent American with Michael Caine , Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman , and in the Guy Ritchie film Snatch .

Lockett has performed at concerts and festivals around the world , such as the Edinburgh Festival , Bruges Festival and Drummusique Festival , Rhythm Sticks in London, Kuala Lumpur, Glasgow One World Festival , Pontardawe Festival , Belfast Festival , Guildford Festival , Sufi -Soul Festival and at the Newbury Festival . He also gave solo concerts, which he designed as multi-media shows, among others in India and Turkey ; a show in Istanbul in 2007 was released as a live recording on CD. In India he played concerts and recordings with such diverse Indian musicians as U. Shrinivas, Shankar Ghosh , Bickram Ghosh, Giuliano Modarelli, Vikku Vinayakram , Loy Mendosa and many others.

On worldwide tours he has appeared in Nepal, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Sudan, Malaysia, Hungary, Palestine, Israel, America and Canada and in several European countries.

In many countries around the world he has taught percussion music or lectured on it, for example at the Royal College , the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music . He has also given percussion lessons at international workshops and seminars , and has written more than a hundred articles and tutorials for international journals such as Modern Drummer in the USA, Drummer Magazine and Rhythm Magazine in the UK, and Drums SA in South Africa. For the European The Mix Magazine he wrote a series on drum and percussion programming with computers and sound modules.

Lockett was voted "best live percussionist 2005" by the readers of the leading English rhythm magazine . He was named “best percussionist 2005” on the international drum website mikedolbear.com. His album, Taiko To Tabla with Joji Hirota, was included in Songlines Magazine in August 2006 in its "top 55 rhythm albums af all time".
