Giovanni Maria Mataloni (born July 24, 1868 in Rome ; † September 21, 1944 there ) was an Italian Art Nouveau poster artist .

There is no information about Mataloni's artistic training. He started his professional activity at the Casa Ricordi music publisher.

Mataloni made his debut as a freelance artist in 1895 with the advertising poster for the Auer company’s gas lighting . The poster was highly rated by art critics and was reproduced two years later in the album Maitres de L'Affiche (Paris, Imprimerie Chaix, p. 72).

His friend, the painter Antonio Mancini , introduced him to the artistic circles of Rome. In 1896 Mataloni became a member of the artist group In arte libertas .

In the following years he created advertising posters for the Tribuna Illustrata (1897), for Grocco Medicines and Cora Vermouth (1898), for Scena Illustrata (1900), for the jeweler Calderoni (1901), for the hygiene exhibition (1902), for the international exhibition Milan (1906) a. a. He also worked for many Italian magazines.

In 1908 he created the frescoes in the dining room of the Faraglia coffee house in Piazza Venezia and in the Palace of Agriculture in Rome.

Giovanni Maria Mataloni was appointed professor of nude painting at the Accademia di San Luca .

From 1920 to 1930 he worked in the cartographic department of the De Agostini Institute.
