Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo
Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo (born April 26, 1538 in Milan ; † February 13, 1600 there ) was a painter, art historian and art theorist. His work can be assigned to mannerism .
Works by Lomazzo can be found in Milan, among others in the churches of Sta Maria della Passione, San Marco and San Vittore.
After the artist went blind at the age of 33 as a result of a cataract, he turned to the creation of art theoretical writings.
His main work on art theory, Trattato dell'arte della Pittura (Treatise on the Art of Painting) (7 volumes) appeared in Milan in 1584 and was so successful that it was translated into English and French. Other works are
