Giovanni Paolucci (born June 24, 1912 in Pallanza , † March 21, 1964 in Rome ) was an Italian documentary filmmaker and film director .

Life

Paolucci earned a degree in law and then enrolled at the Experimental Center of Cinematography , where he studied from 1938 to 1941. At the same time he worked as an amateur filmmaker and wrote for film periodicals such as “Bianco e Nero” and “Cinema” or newspapers such as “Il Giornale di Brescia”. From 1941 he worked as a documentary filmmaker and put forward a considerable number of works up to 1962, some of which are counted among the best that were shot in Italy; La montagna di cenere from 1953 z. B. has received numerous awards.

In addition, Paolucci - during the Second World War worked as an assistant director and film editor for the cinema - also made three feature films based on his own scripts; his first in 1946. Preludio d'amore benefited above all from the outstanding photography by Piero Portalupi . Gli orizzonti del sole also attracted attention as a remarkable youth film. He created templates for some works by other directors or was (probably for tax reasons) the Italian director, including Michael Cacoyannis ' Il relitto and Anthony Mann's El Cid .

Paolucci died at the age of 52.
