Giovanni Roccardi

Giovanni Roccardi (born July 6, 1912 in Serrone ; † unknown) was an Italian naval officer and filmmaker.

Roccardi embarked on a military career and became an officer in the Italian Navy . He was an enthusiastic amateur filmmaker who was soon hired for documentary material on his professional subject. He created v. a. Works with themes related to the sea (“La pesca delle spugne”, “KM 618”, “Nei regni del mare”, “Oasi nell'Artide” etc.), for which he also produced and shot numerous underwater recordings. In addition to a few full-length films strongly influenced by the documentary, Roccardi was responsible for a handful of adventurous material as a (co-) director. He went to television in the 1970s and produced some scripts for the works of colleagues.
