Serrone is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region of Lazio with 3015 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 59 km east of Rome and 40 km northwest of Frosinone .

geography

Serrone is located on a foothill of Monte Scalambra in a panoramic position between the valleys of the Sacco and the Aniene . It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici .

history

In pre-Roman times Serrone was a fortified settlement of Hernici . In Roman times it was mainly an agricultural center with Villae Rusticae . At the end of the Roman Empire there was a Christian community in the district of San Quirico. In the 10th century the place came to the Benedictines of Subiaco .

politics

Maurizio Proietto ( PD ) was elected mayor in May 2003 and confirmed in office in April 2008. His left-wing citizens' list ( Lista Girasole ) also has the majority in the municipal council with 8 out of 12 seats. On May 25, 2013, Natale Nucheli was elected as the new mayor.
