Blood miracle
In the church of Santa Maria Assunta the blood of the martyr Lawrence of Rome is kept as a relic in a glass vial . Every year, shortly before the day of his martyrdom, on August 10th, the dried blood liquefies for a short time. The relic was first mentioned on the occasion of the consecration of the church in 1177. However, the first liquefaction is not documented until the tenure of Pope Paul V , at the beginning of the 17th century. In 1759 the blood miracle was created by Clemens XIII. officially confirmed.
