Colle San Magno is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region of Lazio with 662 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 124 km southeast of Rome and 43 km southeast of Frosinone .

geography

Colle San Magno is located in a high valley on the western slope of Monte Cairo in the Ciociaria landscape . The districts Cantalupo, Varciosa, Forma, Tigione and Scanole belong to it. Colle San Magno is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle del Liri .

The neighboring towns are: Casalattico , Castrocielo , Piedimonte San Germano , Roccasecca , Santopadre and Terelle .

history

When Aquinum was destroyed by the Longobards in 590 AD , the surviving inhabitants founded the Castrum Coeli (sky fortress ) on the nearby Monte Asprano . However, since this place suffered from a lack of water, the inhabitants moved to lower elevations in the 11th century. Today's communities of Colle San Magno, Castrocielo and Roccasecca were founded. In a northerly direction, today's Cantalupo district was settled first. Colle San Magno was not built until later.
