history

The Arnara area has been populated since ancient times. In 756, Aistulf , King of the Lombards, built the Torre Langobarda here during the war against the Pope in order to dominate the Via Latina and to occupy a strategically favorable position against Rome. From this fortification, the castle emerged, which later belonged to the aristocratic family Da Ceccano and in 1504 came to Marcantonio I. Colonna and thus to this family, who owned it as a fief until the abolition of feudal rights in 1816 .
