Settefrati is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region of Lazio with 720 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 136 km east of Rome and 54 km east of Frosinone .

Settefrati is located on the slope of the Rocca Alfiere (2085 m) in the Monti della Meta. A large part of the municipality belongs to the Abruzzo, Latium and Molise National Park . Settefrati is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle di Comino .

The neighboring towns are Barrea ( AQ ), Civitella Alfedena (AQ), Gallinaro , Opi (AQ), Picinisco and San Donato Val di Comino .

history

The name of the place is derived from the Seven Brothers (= sette frati), the sons of Felicitas, martyrs of the 2nd century. A church of the Sette Frati is first attested in the year 991, of which only one portal is preserved today. The ownership of the village was disputed between the Counts of Alvito and the Monastery of Montecassino . In 1861 the Kingdom of Italy came into being .

In an impressive location at an altitude of 1030 m in the Abruzzo Natural Park, next to the source of the Melfa, lies the pilgrim church of Santa Maria del Canneto, which was first mentioned in 1288.
