history

The origin of the place lies in the early Middle Ages, when a retreat settlement was built against the raids of the Arabs and expanded in the 13th century. Since then he has been under direct papal rule. As the most important family in the village, the De Angelis were able to achieve autonomy in their place for a short time from 1564 to 1582; other important families were the Simoncelli and the Filonardi. On January 28, 1861, a battle between Piedmontese and Neapolitan units took place in front of the gates in connection with the annexation of the Kingdom of Both Sicilies by the Italian nation-state. Until 1907 the place was called Bauco and was then renamed because of the return to a past that was regarded as praiseworthy, because it was considered part of the hernicist settlement area .
