history

Filettino was probably formed after the collapse of the Roman Empire, when the people of the plains in the mountains sought shelter on better defended hills. The first written mention, however, dates from the year 1059. In 1294 Filettino came to the noble Caetani family, who stayed there until 1602. After the execution of Prospero Caetani, the place fell directly to the Apostolic Chamber , with which he remained until the unification of Italy in 1870.

From 1938 to 1945, the town was named after the locally born General Rodolfo Graziani in Filettino Graziani renamed.

In protest against the Italian government's austerity program, which called for the dissolution of municipalities with less than 1000 inhabitants, the mayor of Filettino announced the establishment of an independent principality of Filettino in August 2011 .
