Acuto is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region of Lazio with 1882 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is 69 kilometers east of Rome and 34 kilometers northwest of Frosinone .

geography

Acuto is located on a mountain spur in the Monti Ernici in the traditional landscape of Ciociaria . It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici .

The neighboring towns are Anagni , Ferentino , Fiuggi and Piglio .

The Superstrada SS 155rac connects Acuto with the towns of Fiuggi and Frosinone and with the A1 , Autostrada del Sole , exit Anagni.

history

According to tradition, Acuto was founded by citizens of Anagnis on the run from Geiseric's vandals after 455. However, archaeological finds show that the place was inhabited earlier. Subsequently, Acuto belonged to the city of Anagni and from the 12th century to the Bishop of Anagni, who gave the castle to various noble families such as the Caetani and Conti .
