history
In ancient times there were numerous villae rusticae in the municipality of Morolo . The theory that the Roman city of Ecetra was a predecessor settlement of Morolo is today rejected by a majority.
The oppidum Murolum was first mentioned in 1088 when Urban II subordinated it to the Bishop of Anagni , who in turn gave it to the Colonna as a fief. In 1216, Giovanni Graf von Ceccano destroyed Morolo Castle and killed 424 villagers. In 1303 Tommaso da Morolo took part in the Anagni assassination attempt against Pope Boniface VIII .
Between 1385 and 1423 the Colonna managed to regain control of the Morolo territory. They ruled the place until 1809, when it became part of the Roman Empire under Napoleon , and then only briefly from 1814 to 1816, until Pope Pius VII lifted feudal rights. In 1870 Morolo became part of the Kingdom of Italy . In 1927 the province of Rome became the newly founded province of Frosinone.
