When after the destruction of Fregellae in 125 BC When the place Fabrateria Nova was founded, Fabrateria took the name Fabrateria Vetus to distinguish it.
Around the year 600 n. Chr. The place in honor of the consul changed Petronio Ceccanus, father of Pope Honorius I , the name in Ceccano . Ceccano belonged directly to the Holy See . The conquest of the place by the Longobards in 752 was the reason that Pope Stephan II asked the Franks Pippin for help, who then defeated the Longobards and founded the Papal State with the Pippin donation .
Around the year 1000 the place belonged to a noble Da Ceccano family of unknown origin. They built Ceccano Castle into an important strategic point on the southern border of the Papal States. The community still bears the coat of arms of Cardinal Annibaldo de Ceccano (1282-1350), the most prominent member of the family.
But in his day the decline of the sex began and Ceccano fell back to the Holy See. From 1523 to 1816 it belonged to the Colonna family .
