Vincenzo Paglia
Vincenzo Paglia (born April 20, 1945 in Boville Ernica , Province of Frosinone , Italy ) is a Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Vincenzo Paglia is one of the founding staff of the spiritual community of Sant'Egidio, established in 1968 . As a member of the community dedicated to caring for the elderly, the sick, the disabled and the poor, as well as working for peace and overcoming all forms of armed conflict, he was socially and politically involved in numerous apostolates and was her ecclesiastical assistant for many years.
Vincenzo Paglia was ordained a priest on March 15, 1970 in Rome . He was appointed Bishop of Terni-Narni-Amelia by Pope John Paul II on March 4, 2000 . The Archpriest of the Lateran Basilica , Camillo Cardinal Ruini , donated him the episcopal ordination on April 2nd of the same year. Co-consecrators were Archbishop Giovanni Battista Re and his predecessor Franco Gualdrini . The inauguration in the diocese of Terni-Narni-Amelia took place two weeks later.
As a member of the Italian Bishops' Conference , he was President of the Episcopal Commission for Ecumenism and Interdenominational Dialogue. During his time as diocesan bishop Paglia was President of the Catholic Biblical Federation of Italy.
On June 26, 2012, he was received by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed as the successor of Cardinal Ennio Antonelli as President of the Pontifical Family Council and Archbishop ad personam .
Pope Francis appointed him on 15 August 2016 relating to the establishment of the dicastery for the laity, family and life to the Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Institute John Paul II. For Studies on Marriage and Family and President of the Pontifical Academy for Life . With the dissolution of the Pontifical Council for the Family on September 1 of the same year, his activity as its president ended.
