Ignacio Carrasco de Paula

Ignacio Carrasco de Paula (born October 25, 1937 in Barcelona , Spain ) is a Roman Catholic priest and emeritus Curia Bishop . From 1984 to 1994 he was Rector of the Pontifical University of Santa Croce in Rome, from 2010 to 2016 President of the Pontifical Academy for Life .

Life

Ignacio Carrasco de Paula received his doctorate in both philosophy and medicine with a focus on surgery in 1962 . He was ordained a priest on August 8, 1966 in Rome .

From 1984 to 1994 Carrasco was Rector of the Pontifical University of Santa Croce in Rome and from 1994 to 2002 Dean of the Faculty of Moral Theology . From 2002 to 2009 he was Professor of Bioethics at the Medical Faculty of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore UCSC in Rome, where he was Director of the Institute for Bioethics. Carrasco was advisor to the Pontifical Family Council and the Council for Health Pastoral Care and from 1984 to 1994 a member of the ethics committee for clinical studies at the Roman Hospital Ospedale pediatrico Bambino Gesù . Carrasco announced that in 2011 it would publish a comprehensive scientific paper on the effects of abortion on the mental and emotional health of women.

In October 2010 Ignacio Carrasco de Paula criticized the award of the Nobel Prize in Medicine to the British researcher Robert Edwards , but also recognized the advances in reproductive medicine .
