Rino Fisichella , actually Salvatore Fisichella (born August 25, 1951 in Codogno , Province of Lodi , Italy ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and Curia Archbishop .

Life

Fisichella was a seminarian at the Almo Collegio Capranica and was ordained a priest in Rome on March 13, 1976 by Ugo Cardinal Poletti . In 1980 he was at the Pontifical Lateran University with a thesis on Hans Urs von Balthasar doctorate .

In 1998 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Rome by John Paul II and appointed titular bishop of Vicohabentia . The episcopal ordination was granted on September 12, 1998 by Camillo Cardinal Ruini .

He was president of the Diocesan Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue and is a member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Congregation for the Causes of Saints . Fisichella was instrumental in the 1998 encyclical Fides et ratio by Pope John Paul II. In 2006 he supported the work of the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) with the conference “Social Encyclical 'Centesimus Annus' and the Future of Europe” at the Acton Institute.

Fisichella was a professor of fundamental theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University for many years . From 2002 to 2010 he was rector of the Pontifical Lateran University and also official chaplain of the Italian parliament and president of the "International Institute" John Paul II "for studies on marriage and the family" .

On June 17, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI gave birth to him . of his duties as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rome and appointed him to succeed Elio Sgreccia as president of the Pontifical Academy for Life . At the same time he raised him pro hac vice to titular archbishop while maintaining his titular bishopric.

On June 30, 2010 Benedict XVI appointed him. as President of the newly established Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization .

Fisichella is considered the Vatican "chief ethicist".
