The Airvan 8 is a single-engine aircraft produced by the Australian aircraft manufacturer GippsAero, which has been part of Mahindra Aerospace since 2009 .

history

The Airvan 8 completed its maiden flight on March 3, 1995 and, thanks to its robust design, is particularly popular in sparsely populated areas and with bush fliers. Series production began in 2000. A version with the turbocharged Lycoming TIO-540-AH1A engine has been available since 2006. In the future, the machine is to be equipped with floats and propeller turbines.

In 2014, the GA-8 was renamed Airvan 8 .

In Germany, the Airvan 8 is used by Ostfriesischer Flugdienst and Flugservice Bautzen GmbH.

construction

The Airvan 8 is a spacious high-decker with a large sliding door, high-lift aids, fixed steel swing gear and large ground clearance for the propeller. It can accommodate up to 6 passengers or 8 parachutists and is flown by a pilot. The cruising speed is 220 km / h. The range is 1100 kilometers and the flight altitude is 3000 m. The Airvan 8 weighs up to 1800 kg when fully occupied and is 12.70 m wide and 8.90 m long.

Incidents

On July 14, 2019, the GA8 TC320 turbo ( aircraft registration SE-MES ) of the Umeå Parachute Club in Sweden crashed on the island of Storsandskär. All 9 inmates were killed.
