Tex Fletcher (born April 17, 1909 as Geremino Bisceglia in Harrison , Westchester County , New York , †  March 14, 1987 in Newburgh , New York) was an American actor and country singer . His tracks have been recorded by artists such as Gene Autry and Ernest Tubb .

Life

Childhood and youth

Tex Fletcher was the son of Italian immigrants. He was the fifth of eight children from parents Michael and Josephine. The left-hander learned to play the guitar as a young boy. He left his hometown at the age of 15 and toured the United States and Canada with a circus . He then settled in South Dakota , where he learned how to handle horses and became a cowboy.

Beginnings

After he returned to his home state New York in the early 1930s, he became a member of the Rex Cole's Mountaineers in 1933 and got a job at the small radio station WFAS in White Plains . There he appeared in the program as "Singing Cowboy". A talent scout from Hollywood heard his radio program and hired him for eight western films. He got his first role in Down On The Barn , followed by Emmerson's Mountaineers . But even the first film in which he played the lead role, Six-Gun Rhythm , was not released because the distribution company was closed. Fletcher took a copy of the film and roamed the northeastern United States from theater to theater to market his film. He usually went on stage before the performance and sang a few songs, then had the film shown and then gave autographs. He was accompanied by his friend Tex Ritter . Although he received further offers from the film industry, he did not turn any more films for the time being. When the US entered World War II, he was drafted into the army.

Career

After he was discharged from the army, he tried again as a singer and actor - with success, as it later turned out. He has now appeared again on radio stations, played in numerous westerns and released records on Decca Records on a regular basis. In 1950 he joined the ASCAP authors' association . His greatest successes include Pearl and Wine , Lyin 'Lips and The Wall You Build . He has also appeared on the Grand Ole Opry , America's most popular radio show, and on television now and then . He founded his own record company, the Dakota label , on which he later released his records. He released his last album in 1964.

Private life and death

In 1947 he married the nurse Ada Mae Henkel Fletcher (1924-2003), with whom he had five children. His son George is also a musician. Tex Fletcher died on March 14, 1987 at the age of 78.
