The Gippsland GA200 Fatman is an agricultural aircraft from the Australian manufacturer GippsAero .

history

Gippsland Aeronautics later GippsAero already had two decades of experience converting and modifying various aircraft models when the decision was made to develop its own agricultural aircraft. The GA200 has now been built on the basis of the Piper Pawnee . Modified cells from the Pawnee were used for the first two prototypes and only the third prototype was completely rebuilt. The aircraft was certified on March 1, 1991 by the Australian Civil Aviation Authority. It was the first Australian aircraft construction since the GAF Nomad 20 years earlier. To date, 50 GippsAero GA200s have been manufactured at the Latrobe Valley Airport facility and exported to 28 countries including New Zealand, China, USA, Canada, South Africa and Brazil. In the late 1990s, GA200 production was suspended to make way for the GA8 Airvan .

construction

The GA200 is a stripped low wing aircraft with a conventional tail unit and non-retractable tail wheel landing gear . Due to the bracing of the wings, the weight of the wings could be kept low, which benefits the payload. The machine is completely metal - clad and is powered by a Lycoming IO-540 -K1A5 with 224 kW. The construction is designed for easy maintenance and the greatest possible protection for the pilot in the event of an accident. In the high cockpit there are two seats next to each other, the chemical container in front of it holds 1070 liters.

variants

  • GA-200: Ag-trainer, with double control, this variant can also be used as a training aircraft, 3 built
  • GA-200B: Variant with extended wing ends
  • GA-200C: Variant with a more powerful engine and controllable pitch propeller
