Girolamo Pongelli CRS (* 1755 in Rivera ; † after 1789) was a Swiss Somasker and translator.

Life

Girolamo Pongelli was the son of Giovanni Battista Pongelli and his wife Maria Giovanna De Filippi. He belonged to the Somaskan religious order and probably stayed in Naples for a long time ; most of his works were also printed there.

He published the short epic I coralli . He also wrote the short epic Larius, dedicated to Lake Como . This work remained unpublished. Before that, he published the hymns of praise Ode per la restituita salute di S. E. Antonio Di Gennaro duca di Belforte, e di Cantalupo and later Le nozze pastorali di Madian.

In 1780 he translated the work Aucupium by Pietro degli Angeli (1517–1596), called Bargeo , as L'uccellagione from Latin into Italian and from 1789 in twelve volumes of the writing Considerations on the Works of God in the Kingdom of Nature and the Providence of the German Pastors and theologians Christoph Christian Sturm as Considerazioni sopra le opere di Dio nel regno della natura e della provvidenzia into Italian.
