Giuseppe Mentessi (born September 29, 1857 in Ferrara , † June 14, 1931 in Milano ) was an Italian painter .

Mentessi worked as a painter and art teacher in Milan. Recurring motifs in his paintings are loneliness, security, motherhood and humility. Mentessi tends towards a soft, airy style of painting, which is often in contrast to the emotional gravity of what is depicted. Stylistically the painter stands between the academic style and the symbolism .
