An Odoardi violin

Giuseppe Odoardi , also Joseph Odoari (born 1746 ; died 1786 in Genoa ) was a violin maker from Ascoli Piceno .

Odoardi was the son of a farmer who also made woodwork. Odoardi began making instruments when a local musician from Ascoli Piceno asked him to repair a violin . After he started making violins himself, his fame spread and people began to come to Ascoli Piceno because of him. Odoardi had no students, but his style and name were copied for some time.

Odoardi made around 200 violins during his lifetime and was considered equal to the violin makers from Cremona up until the 18th century . The violins he still has today are made available to active musicians by various foundations. Andra Darzins is one of the musicians who use his instruments .
