Glückauf Habbelrath-Grefrath (officially: Sportfreunde Glückauf Habbelrath-Grefrath 1920 eV ) is a sports club from the Frechen district of Habbelrath in the Rhein-Erft district . The first soccer team played for five years in the highest amateur league in the Middle Rhine region.

history

The club was created on August 30, 1950 through the merger of the Grefrather sports club, founded in 1920, with the Habbelrather game club, founded in 1946 . The club colors were initially green and black and were changed to yellow and blue in 1962. The newly founded club took over the place of the Habbelrath game club in the district class and was runner-up in 1951 and 1953 behind SC Balkhausen-Türnich and Alemannia Lendersdorf . Finally, in 1955, he was promoted to the state league , the highest amateur league on the Middle Rhine at the time.

In the promotion season of 1955/56 Glückauf secured fourth place and qualified for the newly created Mittelrhein Association League . In the opening season 1956/57 , the Habbelraths secured fourth place and reached their sporting zenith. In the following years, the team slipped back into mediocrity and had to relegate in 1960 from the association league. The direct rise was missed as runner-up behind local rivals SpVg Frechen 20 . In 1965 the team was relegated to the district class, and in 1970 managed to get promoted again. Three years later, Glückauf went down to the district class again, before moving to the district league A in 1979.

After the runner-up in the years 1981 to 1983, the Habbelrath managed to return to the district league in 1985 and came fourth in the promotion season. Then began a slow decline. In 1990 it went back to the district league A, before relegation to the district league B followed in 2001. In 2007, with the descent to the lowest division, the district league C, the sporting low point was reached. The 2010s brought a sporting turnaround. In 2010 they were promoted to the district league B. In 2013, the Habbelrathers managed to return to the district league A - after two seasons, however, the relegation to the district league B followed - before the return to the district league A was made perfect in the following season could. In the 2016/17 season, the Habbelrather secured the district championship and thus returned to the district league after almost 30 years.
