The Glückstädter herring fishing AG was founded in 1893 and had 1976 as the last logger Fish Society will be closed.

The first fishing season could already take place in 1894, it was fished with sailing loggers . In 1930 the company went bankrupt and the loggers were taken over by the Emden logger fishing companies. The new beginning succeeded in 1934 and until 1969 the Glückstadt loggers drove out for every fishing season. 1969 marks the end of the Glückstadt driftnet fishery for herrings, which were thrown at sea - salted in wooden barrels, called Kantje in technical language , matured and marketed. In addition to the dramatic decline in herring stocks, it was also becoming increasingly difficult to find crews for the extreme working conditions on the loggers.
