Gladenbach cherry market

The Gladenbach cherry market has been an annual folk festival in Gladenbach that has been held for over 175 years and is held from the middle of the last week of June or the first week of July. It is the largest folk festival in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland region . It is organized by the local spa and leisure company. According to the organizers, the number of visitors was 130,000 in 2006, and up to 150,000 visitors are expected for 2012.

The cherry market is officially opened on the Thursday preceding the first Sunday in July. The “Cherry Market Disco Party” always takes place in advance. In the large tent, the mayor welcomes the guests with a tap . Then there will be a concert by the local music association.

The next day the Krammarkt starts with around 250 dealers. In the evening, the election of the “cherry queen” and her prince is the highlight of the festival. The “Gladenbacher Kirschenmarktfrühstück” can be ordered on the following Saturday morning.

On Sunday, the last day of the cherry market, there is a parade in front of around 30,000 spectators, in which around 50 groups take part. In the evening the festival ends with fireworks .

One attraction is the so-called "Fressgasse", a section of the way to the Gladenbach market square, where various foods and sweets are offered on both sides. Driving companies are also represented, including bumper cars, ghost trains and ferris wheels.
