history

Glashütte was first mentioned in a document in 1489. This document concerned border disputes between Sontheim and Frechenrieden . According to the records of the Mindelheimer chronicler Brunnemair, Abbot Johann of the Ottobeuren monastery built a fortress there in the 15th century. This castle construction sparked the disputes. They were ended by a settlement with the result that the castle was not built. The name came from a local glassworks. It is not known when it ceased operations. In 1712, glass production was resumed. Only 20 years later the glaziers emigrated to Bavaria and the place was given up. The forest parts of Alte Burg, first mentioned in 1616, and Alte Statt, first mentioned in 1461, are located in the state forest in the area of the former Glashütte settlement.
