Frechenrieden is a district of the Upper Swabian market Markt Rettenbach in the Unterallgäu district in Bavarian Swabia .
location
Frechenrieden is about five kilometers northwest of the main town and is connected to it by local roads. The Kohlbach and State Road 2011 run west of the village . The Schwelk runs through the village . Otherwise, the village is mainly surrounded by agricultural land.
history
Created as a clearing settlement, Frechenrieden is likely to point to a Franconian foundation. Until about 1350 the place was only called Rieden. The local lord at that time was called Hans von Rieden and was called the Frech , from which the current place name Frechenrieden arose. Frechenrieden was first mentioned in a document in 1167 when Ulrich von Rieden gave the place with all goods and rights, the church, the forest and the meadows as well as the fishing rights to the Ottobeuren monastery. Before that, the monastery had already received an estate in the village from the lay brother Konrad.
Culture and sights
The townscape is determined by the parish church of St. Gordian and Epimachus from the 15th century. Frechenrieden has a distinctive and diverse village life, which is largely shaped by the various local associations. The wide range of clubs includes in particular a sports, rifle, music, veteran and soldier, as well as fruit and horticultural club. There is also a volunteer fire brigade.
