inside view

The first church in Frechenrieden was founded before 912. The choir and nave of the existing church were built in the 15th century. In 1558 the church tower was rebuilt. In the 18th century, from 1735 to 1740, the interior of the church was redesigned in Baroque style . The nave was enlarged by two bays to the west in 1920.

Building description

The nave of the plastered church is a hall with six window axes and a flat ceiling . The retracted choir with a 3/8 end is connected to the nave through a round choir arch. The choir contains two axes and has a ceiling with a flat barrel with stitch caps . Simple buttresses with a water hammer are attached to the outside of the choir . There is a gallery on the west side of the church . A second smaller gallery is located on the south wall of the choir. The church tower, covered with a gable roof, is built in the southern corner of the choir and inclined slightly to the south. The church tower is divided into several floors. These are divided on the outer facade with a cloverleaf arch frieze. There are three-part acoustic arcades on the upper floor . The sacristy is located in the basement of the tower and has a groin vault .

Furnishing

Immaculata, right and left Stations of the Cross

The side altars are made of marbled wood and date from 1680. They are decorated with gold-plated and silver-plated auricle ornament. The two altarpieces are modern and each flanked by rotated free columns. The ceiling paintings were created around 1740. In the choir, the ceiling painting shows an allegory of the church with the four parts of the world. The twelve small fields of the gusset and stitch caps show allegorical depictions of putti. The main pictures of the nave show a rosary Madonna with St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena , the adoration of the Holy Cross by Emperor Heraclius and St. Helena , as well as the gifts of grace obtained on the intercession of Mary. The secondary pictures in the nave show St. Theodore , St. Alexander , St. Gordian , St. Epimachus , St. Benedict and St. Scholastics .

There are paintings on the gallery in the western part of the church. These show the evangelist Matthew and the adoration of the shepherds on the left . On the right are the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and St. Portrayed John of Patmos. All paintings were created in the early 18th century.

A way of the cross with fourteen stations is installed in the church. This was created by a master from Ottobeur and dates from the middle of the 18th century. The paintings are framed with gilded, curved wooden frames. In the church there is a wooden figure of Immaculata from around 1720 or 1730. Around 1800 the processional pole with the figure of the Virgin Mother of God was created.

On the outside walls of the church there are several grave monuments, on the northern outside wall for Pastor Joseph Wagner († 1741). Two further epitaphs from the 18th century on Solnhofen limestone can be found on the southern outer wall. Also made of Solnhofen limestone is the memorial plaque for the fallen and missing between 1805 and 1815 inside the church.
