Gavin Brown (politician)
Gavin Brown (born June 4, 1975 ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Conservative Party .
Life
Brown studied law and qualified as a solicitor . Before starting his own business as a consultant, he worked for a prestigious Scottish law firm. In 2002 Brown won the World Debating Championships in Las Vegas . In the context of the Scottish Politics Awards 2009 he won in the category One to watch , in which the most promising young MP is chosen. Brown is also a black belt holder in Taekwondo and won the gold medal at the Scottish Championships. He has two children and lives in Edinburgh with his wife .
Political career
In the Scottish general election in 2003 Brown applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen , but received only the fourth highest number of votes. He was also placed fifth on the Conservative regional electoral list for the Glasgow electoral region . Since the Conservatives were only able to send one candidate as a result of the election result with first-placed Bill Aitken , Brown missed the entry into the Scottish Parliament . Brown also ran for the 2005 general election . In his constituency of Edinburgh South , however, he could only book the third largest share of the vote and did not move into the British House of Commons .
In the 2007 general election , Brown ran in the constituency of Edinburgh South . He received only the fourth highest number of votes. Since the first-placed Conservative regional electoral list for the Lothian electoral region , David McLetchie , won a direct mandate, the second-placed Brown succeeded in entering the Scottish Parliament for the first time in these elections. In the 2011 elections , Brown again missed the direct mandate of Edinburgh South, but retained his seat in Parliament as a representative of the Lothian electoral region. In the shadow cabinet of the Conservative Brown is provided as the Minister for Enterprise, Energy and Tourism.
