Gronau is a district of the Upper Swabian municipality of Stetten and part of the former municipality of Erisried in the Unterallgäu district ( Bavaria ).

geography

Gronau is about three kilometers south of the main municipality of Stetten and is connected to Erisried via the MN 4 district road. The area around Gronau is mainly used for agriculture.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1431 as a morning gift from Duke Ulrich von Teck for his third wife. The place was documented a second time as early as 1433. The Patriarch Ludwig zu Aquileia, a brother of Ulrichs, prescribed the annual use to Count Michael von Wertheim. F. Zoepfl interprets the town of Atzlysried , which was mentioned in 1464 when the Rechberg inheritance was divided between Jörg and Bero, as another name for Gronau. In 1644 an oil mill was built on the Auerbach, which was used as a grain mill from 1850 until the Auerbach was straightened. To the east of the village is the St. Wendelin chapel . On April 1, 1978, the place was incorporated into Stetten together with the former capital Erisried.
