Glaskin's Perpetual

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glaskin's Perpetual is a variety of common rhubarb ( Rheum rhabarbarum ).

The rhubarb variety is characterized by the fact that leaf stalks can be harvested in the first year of cultivation . Other varieties must be grown for at least two years before stems can be cut. The stems of Glaskin's Perpetual are long and greenish in color and remain tender until the end of the harvest season, i.e. until around the beginning of July, when other varieties already taste bitter and woody. In terms of taste, the variety offers another advantage, because it contains less oxalic acid than all other rhubarb varieties , so that there is no furry taste on the tongue when eating and less sugar is required for preparation.
