Glasson Dock (also just called Glasson ) is a village and harbor in Lancashire , England near the confluence of the River Lune and Morecambe Bay .

Glasson Dock was a settlement of a few farmers and fishermen called Old Glasson . In 1779 the Port Authority of Lancaster decided to build a port that was easier to reach than the quays in the city itself, which were extremely influenced by the large tidal range of the Lune. Construction of the port began in 1780 and ended in 1787.

When the construction of the Lancaster Canal began in 1792 , it was decided to build a link between the canal and the port. The construction of the branch canal did not begin until 1823 and shipping could begin in 1825 despite the lack of warehouses. Slate, wood, potatoes and grain were brought into Lancashire via the port, and coal was shipped from here. The handling of goods did not need a lot of workers and accordingly the place did not grow. The importance of the port today lies in its use as a marina, which only handles very little commercial shipping. The marina offers 220 berths. The port is cordoned off by lock gates that open and close according to the tide.

In 1883 Glasson Dock was connected to the railroad from Lancaster station . Until July 1930 there was passenger traffic on the route, which was then used solely for freight traffic until September 1964.
