Moses Pitakaka

Sir Moses Puibangara Pitakaka GCMG (born January 24, 1945 - December 25, 2011 in Honiara ) was Governor General of the Solomon Islands from July 7, 1994 to July 7, 1999 .

Life

Moses Pitakaka, who came from the province of Choiseul , was elected on May 16, 1994 by the National Parliament of the Solomon Islands as the successor to the outgoing Governor General George Lepping . As governor-general, Pitakaka declared a state of emergency in 1999 during the ethnic conflicts that flared up between 1998 and 2000 .

Pitakaka was married and had children. He died after a long illness on December 25, 2011 in the National Referral Hospital in Honiara. He was given a state funeral on December 28th .
