Glenmavis was a whiskey distillery in Bathgate , North Lanarkshire , Scotland .

The distillery was founded outside the city of Bathgate prior to 1783 and was one of the earliest commercial distilleries in the country. Its name is derived from the nearby Glen Mavis gorge and is not related to the town of Glenmavis . A description of the distillery has been preserved from 1856. The buildings are described as very large area and include mills , a malt house , burning buildings, mash house, cooling systems and warehouse building. The distillery was operated with steam power and a water wheel . There was also a two-story residential building with well-tended gardens and workers' apartments on the site. In 1856 about 2000 gallons of whiskey were produced weekly  . The distillery has changed hands several times in the course of its history. The last owner is John McNab , who owned the distillery from 1831 until it closed in 1910. The buildings were later demolished and the area is now built with residential houses.
