Glenpark House
Glenpark House is a villa in the Scottish city of Port Glasgow in Inverclyde . In 1999 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category C.
description
The villa is located in west Port Glasgow on Glenpark Drive . The oldest part of the building probably dates from the early 19th century. On the Ordnance Survey map from 1832 an elongated building is shown at this point, which had an unchanged floor plan until 1897. From the map from 1913, the current floor plan can be seen, so that an extension must have been made in the meantime. The older, classical part of the building forms the north-west wing. It is two-story with a protruding entrance area in the middle of the building, which is worked with blind pillars and ends with a triangular gable. The door is accessible via a front staircase. The windows are arranged on three vertical axes. The elongated extension made of cream-colored sandstone has three floors and thus towers above the original building. It is provided with a corner tower, a bay , decorative ribbons and ornamented window cornices. The roofs are covered with gray slate shingles. In the interior, the original condition has largely been preserved. A mahogany staircase is remarkable.
