The Glimsche Lamentation is an early work by Albrecht Dürer from around 1500 , which deals with the Lamentation of Christ after his body was removed from the cross . It is named after its founder, the Nuremberg goldsmith Albrecht Glim, who commissioned the picture as an epitaph for his late wife Margret Holtzmann.
In 1988 the painting - as well as the Paumgartner altar and the " Sorrowful Mother " - was sprayed with sulfuric acid by the mentally ill "Dürer assassin" Hans-Joachim Bohlmann and badly damaged, but it was saved in an elaborate restoration process and has been back since 1998 on display in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.
