history

The village was mentioned as a tenth area as early as 1693. Glion used to belong to the municipality of Les Planches , which was incorporated into Montreux in 1953. In the second half of the 19th century, the village developed into a climatic health resort with several hotels and sanatoriums , similar to Caux, which is 350 m higher . It had its heyday in the first half of the 20th century. Then the largest hotels were converted into a hotel management school, a convalescence clinic and a private school. Carl Gustav Emil Mannerheim , Marshal of Finland, lived in the Valmont sanatorium until 1951 . Glion now also serves as a conference venue.

Max Frisch's novel Stiller is partly set in Glion. Frisch completed it in Glion in 1954.
